Job Description
The Valparaiso University Center for Innovation in Teaching, Assessment, and Learning (CITAL) is seeking an Instructional Designer.
Reporting to the Executive Director of CITAL, you would work with fellow CITAL teammates and other University members to create the bestteaching and learning environments for faculty and students. Being a Valpo Instructional Designer, you would provide campus-wide support forfaculty and departments offering face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses and programs. We are seeking someone to manage course design anddevelopment processes, evaluate course design, and apply best practices in teaching and learning in course designs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Partnering with faculty across the university to design, develop, andsupport new and existing courses and programs in one-on-one and programmatic settings. Provide workshops on instructional technologyand pedagogical topics relevant to teaching and learning. Manage multiple projects involving different stakeholders to ensure timelydevelopment and delivery of courses and programs. Assist faculty to integrate course design elements that promote best practices foronline and hybrid course design, accessibility, mission-related teaching practices, and alignment with course/programoutcomes. Collaborate with faculty and departments to successfully transition desired face-to-face courses and programs to thehybrid or online environment. Work with faculty and departments to evaluate and revise existing courses to enhance the learningexperience for students based on best practices. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity andthe ability to work with individuals or groups from diverse backgrounds. Requested Skills & Experience Master'sdegree or equivalent experience in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or a related field Three or more years'experience designing online or hybrid courses in an educational environment Strong knowledge of learning theories, effectiveteaching and learning practices, and instructional design models Strong organizational skills, project and time-management skills,and attention to detail Visual and multimedia design skills, including the ability to storyboard Ability to buildrelationships, synthesize input from multiple stakeholders, and work collaboratively with faculty and staff across theUniversity Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Experience working collaboratively on team-basedprojects Experience with teaching technologies, including Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online creation and deliveryplatforms Strong aptitude for learning new technologies Preferred Skills & Experience Experience with theCanvas Learning Management System Experience with Zoom or other online video conferencing platforms Experience with GoogleWorkspace (formerly Google Apps for Education) If this role excites you, we encourage you to apply even if you don't check everybox.
