The faculty in the Natural Sciences Department at Piedmont University seeks a full-time LabCoordinator/Instructor of Biology. This position provides support to the Natural Sciences Department by overseeing operations of our biologylaboratories as well as teaching biology lab sections. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Coordinating weekly laboratory setup and teardown to ensure operational readiness Helping manage the maintenance,calibration, and repair of laboratory equipment Training and scheduling undergraduate lab assistants Working withfaculty to innovate and refine lab activities Teaching 4-5 labs per semester Holding at least 5 office hours perweek Creating, posting, and grading assignments through Canvas Collecting assessment data for the department Preparing a yearly performance evaluation Maintaining accurate and secure records of student grades, attendance, andadvisement Maintaining high standards of professionalism in the content, objectives, teaching, and grading of all courses Filing accurate course syllabi with the College of Arts and Sciences each semester Maintaining an understanding of collegepolicies and the curriculum and degree requirements of the programs in their field Participating in departmental, school, andcollege faculty meetings and serving on committees as appropriateContributing to the ongoing operation of their respective department andschool
Typical Qualifications Education:
Master's degree or higher inBiology Preferred Experience:
Experience with undergraduatelaboratory instruction desired Preference will be given to those capable of teachingAnatomy and Physiology and MicrobiologyLabs Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of teaching courses in a higher educationenvironment. Ability to combine several pieces of information and draw conclusions. Ability to use reasoning to discover andanswer problems. Skill in using original, unusual, and/or creative ways to solve problems. Ability to speak clearly so listenerscan understand. Ability to understand written and spoken information.Supplemental Information Environmental, Physical, and Visual Acuity Factors:
Incumbents are subject working in bothinternal and external working conditions where they will be subject to exposure to extreme heat or temperatures above 100 degrees. Incumbents will perform a medium level of work where they may exert up to 50lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs of forcefrequently, and up to 10lbs of force constantly. Incumbents must have close visual acuity to operate motor vehicles. The essentialfunctions and responsibilities of this position require incumbents to: climb or ascend or descend stairs, ramps, or hills; balance ormaintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching; stoop or bend downward and forward by bending at thespine or waist; kneel or bending legs at knee to come to rest on knee or knees; crouch or bend body downward and forward by bending leg andspine; crawl or move about on hands and knees or hands and feet; reach or extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; stand or remainupright on the feet; walk or move about on foot to accomplish tasks; push and pull or use upper extremities to press against something withsteady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward; lift or raise objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontallyfrom position to-position; finger; grasp; feel; talk to express or exchange ideas; hear to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speakinglevels; and make repetitive motions.
