A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

Make a positive difference in the lives of students with special needs in a supportive school environment! Multiple full-time Special Education teaching opportunities are available for the 2026-2027 school year, with assignments on-site in various dynamic programs serving K-12 learners. Each opening offers the chance to work alongside dedicated instructional assistants (IAs) and collaborate with other professionals passionate about inclusive education.

Openings include:

Middle school life skills program (12 students, 4 IAs): Focus on supporting students with a blend of behavioral and academic needs. Elementary K-2 developmental classroom (16 students, 5 IAs): Emphasis on teaching basic skills, fostering functional routines, and supporting non-verbal learners. Two elementary-intensive behavioral health program roles (grades 3-5, 13 students, 4 IAs): Leading classroom management and social-emotional learning.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

Valid Special Education teaching certification (or eligibility in Oregon) Experience with diverse caseloads or settings, including behavior management and support for nonverbal students Strong communication skills and adaptability with collaborative teams Ability to implement IEPs and create individualized, student-centered learning supports Previous school-based experience preferred

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and execute engaging lessons tailored to student needs Assess, monitor, and document academic, developmental, and behavioral progress Lead IAs and work closely with related service providers and families Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom community

Schedule & Assignment:
