EXEMPLARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide specialized and individualized instruction for students with disabilities, consistent state education requirements and the students IEP.Positive professional and respectful conduct when communicating with professionals, students and parents.

On-going documentation of student progress, lesson planning and communication with both parents and professionalsParticipate in developing schedules for assigned caseload of students to insure that all services required in the students IEP are accessed. Development of IEPs for students in accordance with the IDEA, based on student evaluation results and student individualized need.

Serve as a leader of the IEP team for assigned student caseload.

Attendance and participation in Common Planning meetings with other members of the faculty. Communicates effectively with the school community, parents and administrators. Works collaboratively with teachers, support personnel, parents and administrators in advocating for students and providing necessary accommodations and modifications, as outlined in students IEPs. Attends school and district-level meetings and completes other related activities as required by the AdministrationMaintains accurate and timely special education and student records. Collaborates effectively, with teams of professionals, students and parents, to problem-solve and resolve ongoing student concerns.

Participate as a member of the evaluation and RTI teams, as pertains to assigned student caseload. Monitor student progress on IEPs, Behavior Plans, and Common Core standards and reports progress in a timely and effective manner to other members of the school team and parents. Attendance in all mandated Professional Development opportunities.

Assumes other responsibilities as directed by the Special Education Director or Building Principal.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in working with students from urban areaDesire to work with middle school students and young adults. Experience working with students with Autism and behavioral/social/emotional challenges.

Experience with diversity preferred.

Successful experience teaching.
