Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent and 48 units of college level coursework or associate's degree or verification of meeting NCLB requirements.
- Ability to read, write and speak at a level sufficient to fulfill the assigned duties.
- Ability to communicate with and effectively supervise students.
- Ability to accept directions and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with others.
Brief Description of Position:
- Assist and train students in the maintenance of personal needs including feeding, combing hair and dressing appropriately.
- Provide physical assistance to students who cannot care for themselves, including feeding, diapering, turning and physical movement. Assist students with personal hygiene; wash hands and faces; toilet students and change diapers and clothing as needed.
- Prepare students for mainstreamed classes according to established procedures.
- Provide instruction/assistance to severely handicapped students in social, self-help and community skills.
- Assist students on and off the bus; push wheelchairs and lift students as needed.
- Tutor individual or small groups of severely handicapped students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher; monitor and oversee student drills, practices and related activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
