Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 48 units of college level coursework or associate's degree or verification of meeting NCLB requirements.
  • Ability to read, write and speak at a level sufficient to fulfill the assigned duties.
  • Ability to communicate with and effectively supervise students.
  • Ability to accept directions and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with others.
Brief Description of Position:
  • Assist and train students in the maintenance of personal needs including feeding, combing hair and dressing appropriately.
  • Provide physical assistance to students who cannot care for themselves, including feeding, diapering, turning and physical movement. Assist students with personal hygiene; wash hands and faces; toilet students and change diapers and clothing as needed.
  • Prepare students for mainstreamed classes according to established procedures.
  • Provide instruction/assistance to severely handicapped students in social, self-help and community skills.
  • Assist students on and off the bus; push wheelchairs and lift students as needed.
  • Tutor individual or small groups of severely handicapped students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher; monitor and oversee student drills, practices and related activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
