Per Union Contract Summary

Assist special education teachers and related service staff providers with maintaining effective instructional programs for students with disabilities under the guidance of their Individualized Education Program (IEP) at North Haven High School. Education/Qualifications

High School Diploma and Pass ParaPro Test by February 1, 2026; or Associate's Degree.

Expectation and Responsibilities

Prefer experience working with children with disabilities;

Prefer experience using technology (i.e. Google);

Read and understand the basic elements of an IEP, schedules, and other support plans;

Assist students with communication, sensory, learning and behavioral challenges per the direction of the certified staff; Use a variety of instructional and social/emotional strategies across all settings - general education classroom, self contained classroom, resource classroom, community, non instructional settings; Collect behavioral, academic, social, and communication data using charts, graphs or tables;

Implement proactive behavior strategies;

Provide learner independence and understand the impact of fading and prompting techniques; Initiate and reinforce individual learning strategies across a variety of settings, including the general education classroom, self contained classroom, resource classroom, community, non instructional settings; Flexibility with reasonable assignment changes dependent on student needs; Effectively communicate with teachers and other service providers as a team member; Willingness to be trained in and use appropriate de-escalation and physical restraint techniques;

1:1 support to small groups;

Self-care activities, including toileting and hygiene; Handle with Care Trained (or District will provide training).

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
