PRIMARY PURPOSE
Assist the teacher in meeting the physical, behavioral and instructional needs students with
disabilities. Work under the general supervision the principal and the immediate direction a
certified teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATIONCERTIFICATION
- High school diploma GED
- NCLB Certification
•( or more college credit hours andor successful completion the three areas
assessment and a classroom observation as required by the NCLB Act)
Paraprofessional Certification
Recommended, not required
•willingness to obtain Chauffeurs Driver's License, (CDL)
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGESKILLS
Ability to work well with children with disabilities
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Willingness to participate in job related staff development
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
. Enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local Board Policy.
. Assist students with physical disabilities, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or
positioning.
. Assist students with eating, using the bathroom, and maintaining personal hygiene.
. Assist in managing aggressive behavior students.
. Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce motor andor cognitive skills as
assigned by the teacher.
. Assist supervising students throughout the school day, inside the classroom, lunchroom, bus duty,
and playground.
. Keep the teacher informed any special needs or problems individual students.
. Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials.
. Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
. Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance equipment.
. Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
. Maintain confidentiality.
. Participate in staff development training programs and faculty meetings.
. All other duties as assigned.
