Job Description

[ Position ] Japanese Bilingual Interpreter & English Tutor [ Summary ] A leading global industrial and machinery trading company is seeking a motivated, bilingual Project Coordinator / Design Support professional to assist with a major industrial facility construction project in Phoenix, AZ. Working on-site at a strategic partner's office, this role provides critical administrative, coordination, and preliminary technical support to the design engineering team. The ideal candidate will act as a vital communication bridge between Japanese and American stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution. [ Essential Duties ]
Project Coordination:
Assist the engineering/design team with task management, project scheduling, action item tracking, and overall progress monitoring.
Bilingual Communication & Interpretation:
Provide real-time Japanese/English interpretation during internal and external technical meetings; draft and distribute comprehensive meeting minutes in both languages.
Documentation & Data Management:
Organize, track, and maintain accurate engineering drawings, technical data, and critical project documentation.
Design & Technical Support:
Assist with basic CAD drawing reviews and data entry using AutoCAD and Plant 3D (training will be provided for candidates eager to learn CAD).
Stakeholder & HQ Liaison:
Facilitate seamless reporting, communication, and alignment (Ho-Ren-So) between local project teams in the U.S. and overseas headquarters in Japan.
Vendor & Supplier Support:
Handle inquiries and coordinate delivery schedules and specifications with local vendors, equipment fabricators, and manufacturers. [ Working Hours / Working style ] 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM (Monday - Friday) with a 60-minute lunch break. In-office position (No remote work available). [ Working Location ] Phoenix, Arizona [ Salary / Benefit ] 50k-60k Health, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance. 401(k) Matching and Retirement Plan. Paid Time Off (PTO). Transportation benefit. Language:
Business-level fluency or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English (written and verbal) is
REQUIRED.
Experience:
3 to 5+ years of professional work experience. Experience working within Japanese corporate culture or familiarity with Japanese business etiquette is highly preferred.
Education:
Bachelor's degree preferred. PC /
Technical Skills:
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Interest or basic experience in CAD software (AutoCAD / Plant 3D) is a plus.
Mindset:
Proactive self-starter with strong attention to detail, excellent time management, and the ability to anticipate team needs and work independently.
Work Authorization:
Must have valid legal authorization to work in the United States (Visa sponsorship is not available for this role). Facilitate effective communication during meetings, negotiations, and technical discussions between Japanese and English-speaking stakeholders. Translate technical documents, manuals, and correspondence from Japanese to English and vice versa with accuracy and attention to detail. Demonstrate cultural competency by advising team members on cross-cultural communication strategies. Uphold professional ethics by maintaining confidentiality and impartiality in all interpretation and translation tasks. Assist with interpreting in specialized areas such as industrial machinery specifications, safety protocols, and operational procedures. Requirements Fluency in both Japanese and English, with proven bilingual proficiency. Experience in interpretation modalities including over-the-phone interpretation, simultaneous interpretation, and educational interpretation. Strong understanding of linguistic principles, translation techniques, and cultural nuances across both languages. Knowledge of technical terminology related to machinery or manufacturing industries is preferred. Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly. Demonstrated professionalism and adherence to ethical standards in all work activities. Ability to adapt quickly to diverse settings and handle multiple tasks efficiently. Prior experience as an interpreter or language tutor is advantageous; certification in interpretation or linguistics is a plus.
Pay:
$50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
