As an Academic Tutor and Mentor with City Year in the Education, Training & E-Learning department, you will support students' academic and social-emotional growth in partnering public schools. In this full-time role, you'll provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring, mentor students, track progress, and assist teachers with classroom activities. You'll collaborate with a diverse AmeriCorps team, contribute to after-school programs, and participate in regular training. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one and small-group academic tutoring in core subjects Mentor students to build motivation, confidence, and positive habits Support classroom teachers with instruction, activities, and behavior reinforcement Monitor and track student attendance, engagement, and academic progress Assist with planning and leading after-school or enrichment programs Communicate regularly with teachers and school staff about student needs Participate in City Year trainings, coaching, and professional development Collaborate with Ameri Corps teammates to deliver coordinated student support Model inclusive, culturally responsive, and equity-focused practices Support school-wide events and family engagement activities as needed Required Skills Tutoring in math and literacy Classroom support and behavior management Student mentoring and coaching Lesson and activity planning Data entry and progress monitoring Basic educational technology (e.g., Google Workspace, learning platforms) Written and verbal communication Collaboration and teamwork in school settings Time management and organization Culturally responsive and inclusive practices
