About Joe's Kids Joe's Kids is a rapidly growing non-profit pediatric therapy clinic that provides physical, occupational, speech and dyslexia tutoring therapy services. We serve children with a wide variety of ability levels and diagnoses, including sensory processing disorders, autism, hypotonia, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, brain injury, speech delay, dysphagia, and other genetic, neurological and orthopedic conditions. Therapeutic ServicesPOSITION SUMMARY
The Dyslexia Therapy Tutor provides structured literacy intervention to children diagnosed with or suspected of having dyslexia or other reading disorders. Using evidence-based approaches such as Orton-Gillingham or similar methodologies, the therapist delivers direct, individualized instruction while collaborating closely with families, educational professionals, and other service providers. This role supports the child's ability to become an independent, confident reader.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Therapeutic Instruction:
Deliver one-on-one and small group therapy using a structured literacy approach. Address phonological awareness, decoding, spelling, reading fluency, and comprehension skills. Customize intervention plans based on student needs and learning profiles.Progress Monitoring and Documentation:
Administer assessments to determine instructional level and track progress. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of therapy sessions and outcomes.Collaboration and Family Support:
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and at-home strategies. Work alongside other team members including speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to individualized plans of care.Professional Practice:
Engage ongoing training and certification updates in structured literacy methods. Promote a compassionate and encouraging learning atmosphere.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree, preferably in education, literacy, or related field required.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience with and/or willingness to complete Orton-Gillingham (O-G) training within the first year of employment. Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) preferred or willingness to pursue within two years. Knowledge of dyslexia legislation, IEP/504 processes, and academic assessments. Experience in a multidisciplinary clinical or school setting.SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Understanding reading development and dyslexia. Strong instructional, observational, and analytical skills. Empathetic and collaborative communication style. Capacity to create a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment.PHYSICAL DEMAND CAPACITY
