Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Help bring accessible communication to students by working as an integral part of the educational team. This contract opportunity is located near Science Hill and supports nearby communities such as Somerset, Danville, and Berea—just about 60 miles south of Lexington! If you're a skilled Sign Language Interpreter or an educator proficient in American Sign Language, your expertise can make a real difference in this vibrant region. Candidates from out of state are welcome and provided with guidance throughout the licensure process. Individuals holding a 4.0 EIPA or NIC certification who are willing to pursue Kentucky licensure are highly encouraged to apply!
Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required Current EIPA score of 4.0 or higher OR NIC certification preferred Willingness to obtain (or in process of obtaining) a Kentucky interpreter license Previous experience supporting K-12 students in an educational setting desirable Strong commitment to facilitating access and equity in the classroom, both one-on-one and in group settings
Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language and classroom activities into American Sign Language for students who are deaf or hard of hearing Foster clear communication among students, educators, and peers Support classroom instruction through accurate and appropriate interpretation Collaborate with teaching, support, and administrative staff to ensure a successful learning environment Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and impartiality at all times This contract position provides valuable experience within a supportive, collaborative school community, and offers out-of-state applicants guidance for licensure.
