Champlain Valley Union High School This position will remain open until filled. However, applications received within the first seven days of posting will receive priority consideration. Champlain Valley Union High School (CVU) seeks a 1.0 FTE Employment Specialist (Anticipated, One-Year, 2026-2027) to join our Community Skills Program starting FY27. This is a community-based learning program designed for students receiving special education services. We are looking for an advocate of inclusive education who is a problem-solver, strong collaborator, and a positive team member. The ideal candidate will foster student independence and demonstrate a strong willingness to learn while supporting students in school and at various job sites in our community. Primary Responsibilities Carry out specialized instruction and accommodations relevant to vocational and academic skills. This includes tutoring students in work skills and enabling students with severe communication challenges to fully participate in school activities. Provide small group and individual student support at community job sites. Work with transition professionals to analyze work skills and "carve" employment experiences for youth. Follow and adjust elements of written intervention plans, integrating behavioral and communication strategies into both classroom and work settings. Participate in coordination meetings with teachers and parents. Assist in the administration of assessments, maintain working files, and record data related to student performance and behavior. Assist students as required with personal care, mobility issues, and the administration of medical protocols under nursing supervision. Perform clerical tasks as assigned, such as making photocopies, ordering supplies, and organizing instructional materials. Transport students to/from job sites using a school vehicle (clean driving record required). Use of a personal vehicle may be requested, with mileage reimbursed at the federal rate. The Ideal Candidate Will Possess Bachelor's degree or equivalent training in a specialized area (Employment & Transition preferred). Prior experience supporting students with low-incidence developmental disabilities is strongly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to use adaptive equipment. High levels of dependability, self-control, and the ability to remain calm and efficient during medical emergencies or high-stress situations. Ability to attend required training and professional growth activities, which may occasionally occur outside of standard school hours (summers or after-school).Pay Rate:
$28.62 to $30.53 per hour, depending on education and experience (per the 2023-2026 Union Support Staff Agreement; 2026-2027 rates TBD). Ongoing training and supervision will be provided.
