Virtual Designer - Electrical BIM/CAD/RevitPosition Overview We are seeking an experienced Virtual Designer with a strong background in BIM, CAD, and Revit to support commercial electrical construction projects. This position is responsible for developing accurate electrical shop drawings and 3D models, coordinating BIM models with other trades, resolving clashes, and supporting projects through the BIM coordination and model sign-off process. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in the commercial construction industry and be highly proficient with Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks . Experience specifically supporting electrical construction projects is highly preferred. Key Responsibilities Develop detailed electrical shop drawings and 3D BIM models using field superintendent layouts, construction drawings, and project specifications. Build and maintain models using Revit and AutoCAD MEP . Perform BIM coordination, clash detection, and clash resolution using Navisworks Manage. Participate in the General Contractor's BIM coordination process, including model uploads, coordination meetings, revisions, and final model sign-off. Coordinate electrical models with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and other trade models. Collaborate with project managers, field superintendents, BIM/VDC teams, and engineering personnel to ensure models accurately reflect project requirements and field conditions. Support design-build projects by working closely with engineering teams throughout model development. Extract and interpret information from BIM models to support construction and field operations. Produce Bills of Materials (BOMs) for procurement, material planning, and labor tracking. Assist with the development and maintenance of company AutoCAD/Revit templates, details, families, and graphic standards . Identify constructability and coordination issues before installation and work with project teams to develop practical solutions. For senior-level designers, assist the BIM Manager with tracking and maintaining project BIM budgets. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Approximately 10+ years of CAD/BIM drafting and design experience within commercial construction ; highly experienced candidates with 15-20+ years are encouraged to apply. Strong proficiency with Revit . Strong proficiency with AutoCAD MEP and other Autodesk production software. Experience using Navisworks , preferably Navisworks Manage, for model review and BIM coordination. Demonstrated experience developing construction drawings, shop drawings, and coordinated 3D models. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, field layouts, and related project documentation. Experience working within a multidisciplinary BIM coordination environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage revisions throughout the project lifecycle. Preferred Qualifications Previous electrical construction BIM/VDC experience . Experience producing electrical shop drawings for commercial construction projects. Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) . Electrical field experience and/or formal education in electrical theory. Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) . Experience with Bluebeam Revu . Experience generating material quantities or Bills of Materials directly from BIM models. Familiarity with electrical installation methods and constructability considerations. Senior Virtual Designer Qualifications Candidates being considered for a Senior Virtual Designer position should additionally possess: Strong working knowledge and practical application of the National Electrical Code (NEC) . Electrical field experience and/or an Electrical Theory degree or equivalent technical education. Ability to independently manage complex BIM coordination activities. Experience supporting BIM project budgets and working directly with BIM/VDC management. Ability to mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance throughout the coordination process. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an experienced BIM professional who understands both 3D modeling and the realities of electrical construction in the field . They should be comfortable taking information from field superintendents and construction documents and turning it into coordinated, constructible electrical models and shop drawings.
