JOB SUMMARY

Work independently on development of mechanical designs and adaptations. Act as Subject Matter Expert for electro-mechanical hardware & software, including welding, material handling, and automated equipment controls. Design and redesign components, products, and fixtures. Prepare layouts, detailed drawings, and specifications. Integral component of engineering, testing, training, performance, and support.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee projects to ensure activities, schedules, and budgets are up to date. Meet with team members on regular basis to review future actions. Compliment the development and implementation of engineering test plans for a particular product, process, or problem area. Support production with engineering support.

Specifically:

Competent in programming PLC, HMI and Control Software specifically Yaskawa/Motoman equipment. Influence and support the design and implementation of factory automation equipment and related jigs & fixtures; uses tools, templates, and fixtures to align, fit, and weld components. Work on R D projects and initiatives under the supervision of the Engineering Team and/or Manager. Support manufacturing team members by monitoring for proper functioning and coordinating service through external contractors as needed. Support manufacturing flow through identifying, designing, and creating manufacturing fixtures/ jigs to aid quality and improve manufacturing process/ flow. Support general manufacturing/ assembly as required. Assists Supervisors and Manager with identifying continuous improvements related to production flow, organization and operational efficiencies. Lead by example approach to general safety procedures, workplace ergonomics, proper use of equipment and use of personal protection equipment (PPE). Travel as insurable, licensed driver throughout North America, as required. Other duties as assigned. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of technical degree in related field required. Hands-on experience with automation, machine controls, robotics, and welding. Working knowledge of MS Office (including Access) and experience with CAD (SolidWorks preferred). Familiarity with robotic welding programming, preferably Yaskawa. Experience with and knowledge of robotic systems, systems integration, welding principles and equipment maintenance, with thorough understanding of use of diagnostic and remedial tools. Hands-on experience in first level troubleshooting of electrical and hydraulicspreferred; familiarity with a variety of manufacturing processes and materials used. Mechanical aptitude, with ability to absorb technical and mechanical information quickly, including basic understanding of computer programming. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Possess solid communication skills, with ability to interact with team members in various positions and settings in facility. Self-motivated with ability to take initiative to work independently or in small teams. Maintain positive working relationships with McFarlane personnel, dealers, and key end-users. Ability to accept accountability for both assigned outcome-based projects and defined goals/ objectives across multiple McFarlane Mfg. Co. departments.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Must wear proper PPE while on the production floor. Regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, talk and hear. Close, peripheral and distance vision required. Utilize standard office equipment, computer keyboard and monitor, cell phone. Must be able to operate Ag equipment for testing purposes. Must be able to drive, potentially for long distances. May be required to lift 50 lbs. Demonstrates accountability for all safety procedures, leading by example.
