This position is intended for an individual with previous construction and/or land surveying experience who is capable of performing field surveys, interpreting construction plans, maintaining accurate survey records, and assisting with the management of surveying projects from field preparation through completion. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of surveying principles and field procedures, is comfortable working independently and as part of a survey crew, and is interested in developing their technical and project management skills within a growing surveying company. Duties Perform construction stakeout for commercial, residential, civil, and infrastructure projects in accordance with construction plans and project requirements. Perform as-built surveys and accurately document the location and elevation of constructed improvements. Perform topographic, existing conditions, boundary, and other land surveys as required. Establish, verify, and maintain horizontal and vertical survey control throughout the duration of a project. Perform differential leveling and level loops for establishing and verifying project benchmarks and elevations. Operate survey equipment including robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, digital levels, data collectors, and related field equipment. Review construction plans, grading plans, utility plans, survey drawings, and project information prior to performing fieldwork. Perform field calculations and verify measurements, elevations, offsets, and control before and during construction stakeout. Maintain clear and accurate field notes, sketches, photographs, point descriptions, and other survey documentation. Download, organize, and review field data and communicate field results to office personnel. Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, superintendents, and other project personnel as necessary to complete assigned surveying work. Assist with planning and managing surveying assignments, including determining field requirements, coordinating schedules, and monitoring project progress. Identify discrepancies or potential problems in construction plans, control, or field conditions and communicate them to the appropriate project personnel. Maintain survey equipment, vehicles, tools, and other company property in good working condition. Follow company safety procedures and applicable jobsite and traffic-control requirements. Provide guidance and training to survey helpers and less-experienced field personnel when assigned to a crew. Qualifications Degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Surveying Engineering, or a related surveying program, OR currently enrolled in an applicable college or university surveying program preferred. Previous land surveying or construction surveying experience preferred. Experience performing construction stakeout, as-built surveys, topographic surveys, and differential leveling preferred. Working knowledge of survey control, coordinate systems, elevations, benchmarks, and basic surveying calculations. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, civil drawings, grading plans, utility plans, and survey documents. Experience operating robotic total stations, GNSS equipment, digital levels, and survey data collectors preferred. Experience with Trimble survey equipment and Trimble Access is preferred. Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Trimble Business Center is preferred. Ability to organize fieldwork and manage assigned surveying tasks with limited supervision. Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize and investigate discrepancies before they affect construction. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather and jobsite conditions. Ability to lift, carry, set up, and operate surveying equipment and materials. Valid driver's license required. Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
