Description Non-Profit Staff Accountant - Revenue, Grants & Contracts (Part-Time, Remote)

Location:

Remote (Bay Area candidates preferred)

Schedule:

Part-Time, 15-20 hours per week

Duration:

Contract through June 2027, with potential for contract-to-hire

Compensation:

$32-38 per hour (DOE)

Late September 2026 About the Opportunity A Bay Area organization is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support ongoing accounting operations related to fee-for-service contracts, revenue recognition, and financial reconciliations. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working independently, managing multiple funding streams, and ensuring financial accuracy in a dynamic environment. This position is 100% remote and offers a flexible schedule. The ideal candidate will be available to handle time-sensitive accounting matters throughout the week while completing the remainder of their hours on a flexible schedule. Key Responsibilities

+ Manage accounting activities related to revenue, grants, and contracts

+ Review and reconcile fee-for-service revenue transactions and contract activity

+ Prepare and maintain account reconciliations and supporting schedules

+ Analyze contract billing and revenue recognition to ensure accuracy

+ Monitor grants and funding sources, ensuring proper accounting treatment

+ Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end close activities

+ Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts

+ Research and resolve discrepancies and accounting issues

+ Collaborate with operational teams regarding contracts, invoicing, and revenue tracking

+ Maintain organized documentation and support audit and compliance requests Schedule & Flexibility + 15-20 hours per week

+ Ideal availability of 3-4 hours per day for urgent or time-sensitive accounting matters

+ Remaining hours can be worked flexibly based on candidate preference

+ Monday through Thursday schedule is acceptable if preferred

+ Potential opportunity for additional hours based on workload and candidate experience Growth Opportunity This engagement is expected to continue through June 2027 and may transition into a contract-to-hire opportunity. There may also be opportunities to support accounts payable, administrative, or office operations functions in the future for candidates with relevant experience. Requirements Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field + 3+ years of accounting experience

+ Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting

+ Experience supporting revenue accounting and contract-based revenue streams

+ Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

+ Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a remote environment

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Excel Preferred Qualifications

+ Experience with grants accounting or nonprofit organizations

+ Experience accounting for fee-for-service contracts, consulting services, or project-based revenue

+ Experience using Sage Intacct or related ERP systems
