Job Description
Welders Supply Company ("Welders" or "WSC") has an excellent professional opportunity for a degreed Senior Accountant (CPA or CMA preferred) looking to take on additional managerial responsibilities and grow with our dynamic, multi-faceted organization at our Beloit, Wisconsin location. We are Southern Wisconsin's and Northern Illinois' fastest growing, family-owned distributor of gases, welding supplies, and dry ice for industry, medical and commercial uses. The Senior Accountant's activities include assisting with the management of all day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, leading the month-end close process, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting financial reporting and compliance requirements. In addition, this role assists the CFO/Controller with the supervision and development of the accounting staff while partnering with business leaders to provide timely financial information, analysis, and operational support. Duties Financial Close & General Ledger Management Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and prepaid schedules Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations Perform and review bank reconciliations Manage daily cash reconciliation processes Maintain financial close calendars and ensure deadlines are met Financial Reporting & Analysis Prepare, review, approve, and distribute financial reports Support preparation of internal financial statements, bank reporting, and management reporting packages Assist with KPI reporting and financial performance metrics Review AR aging reports and financial operational trends Support budget-to-actual variance analysis Assist in cash flow forecasting and financial planning activities Provide financial insights and recommendations to management Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable Oversight Supervise Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions Review customer credit approvals and monitor receivable risk Oversee vendor payment processing and cash disbursement activities Monitor fixed asset accounting, depreciation, and capital expenditure tracking Review inventory valuation practices and physical inventory processes Ensure accurate documentation and reconciliation of asset additions and deletions Compliance, Controls & Audit Establish and maintain effective internal controls Coordinate and support external audit activities Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures Support corporate tax and sales/use tax compliance activities Support payroll activities (backup as needed) Maintain accounting documentation and procedural controls Leadership & Team Development Assist with directing, coaching, and developing accounting staff Help to establish performance expectations and accountability measures Review work performed by accounting team members for accuracy and completeness Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence Coordinate workload and priorities across accounting functions Process Improvement & Systems Management Lead accounting process improvement initiatives Evaluate and strengthen financial workflows and controls Partner with operational departments to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy Support implementation and optimization of accounting systems and reporting tools Performer Requirements 1) Successful experience in the execution of accounting activities and processes 2) Strong knowledge and practice of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and accounting best practices 3) Experience with ERP/accounting systems. Epicor Profit 21 preferred 4) Advanced Microsoft Excel skills 5) Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy 6) Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement abilities 7) Strong organizational and project management skills 8) Effective communication and leadership skills 9) Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines 10) Effectively communicate in English (verbally and in writing) when collaborating with business associates 11) Ability to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time while performing computer/desk work and repetitive tasks such as keyboarding 12) Capable of completing a work schedule which may be before or beyond regular office hours as needed
Equipment/Software Used:
Personal computer and various office equipment. Competency with Epicor P21, TrackAbout, and Unified Payments software. Strong Microsoft Excel and above average MS Office skills.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting. CPA or CMA certification preferred. 3+ years of progressive accounting experience. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close processes. Experience overseeing AP, AR, and fixed asset accounting functions.
