Job Description
Pacific Staffing is partnering with our Rancho Cordova CA based client to identify a hands-on, detail-driven Controller to lead accounting operations and strengthen financial management during the organization's next stage of growth. Our client is an established, multi-discipline professional services firm known for its collaborative culture, long-tenured technical teams, and commitment to high-quality engineering work. The Controller will play a critical role in building the financial operating system that supports continued expansion while maintaining strong profitability, a healthy culture, and exceptional client service. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting leader who understands project-based accounting, enjoys improving systems, and excels at helping technical teams make better business decisions. It is a hands-on accounting leadership role, not a CFO or capital-markets position.
Ensure accurate general-ledger activity, balance-sheet reconciliations, and financial statements.
Oversee AP, AR, payroll accounting, billing, WIP, project accounting, and revenue recognition.
Support routine billing and resolve complex billing, contract, WIP, collection, and project-budget issues.
Prepare concise monthly financial statements, dashboards, and plain-English commentary.
Report on revenue, profit, cash, budget, forecast, AR, WIP, backlog, utilization, effective multiplier, write-offs, and project profitability.
Partner with Principals and Project Managers to diagnose project-financial issues and agree on corrective actions.
Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasting, and short-term cash forecasting.
Assess and improve internal controls, document accounting policies, procedures, and critical workflows.
Serve as the business owner for Deltek Vantagepoint accounting and financial-management functions.
Improve reporting, dashboards, workflows, data quality, and employee adoption of Deltek Vantagepoint.
Supervise, coach, cross-train, and support the Accounting Team.
Provide the President and Board with reliable information — no financial surprises.
Help the organization use technology and AI to reduce repetitive work while maintaining judgment and accountability. Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience.6+ years of progressive accounting experience.3+ years leading employees or managing an accounting function.
Demonstrated responsibility for monthly close, general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Significant experience with project-based accounting, job costing, WIP, billing, AR, and project profitability.
Experience preparing budgets, forecasts, cash projections, and management reporting.
Proven ability to improve internal controls and accounting processes.
Strong Excel, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to explain accounting concepts to engineers and non-accountants.
Comfortable working directly in the details while supporting senior leadership.
Ability to work primarily onsite at the Sacramento headquarters.
Salary:
$115,000-$150,000+Bonus.100% on Site. Responsibilities Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process.Ensure accurate general-ledger activity, balance-sheet reconciliations, and financial statements.
