About Global Empowerment Mission Global Empowerment Mission, Inc. (GEM) is a nonprofit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization headquartered in Doral, Florida. GEM mobilizes emergency resources, medical support, and community assistance to individuals and communities affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises around the world. Behind every deployment is a finance and accounting team that ensures donor funds, grants, and emergency resources are tracked accurately and used responsibly — this role is part of that team. Position Summary Global Empowerment Mission is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to assist on the full-cycle accounts payable process for our Finance team. This role is a point of contact for vendor invoices and payments, ensuring GEM's suppliers, contractors, and disaster-response vendors are paid accurately and on time. This is a specialized, detail-driven role for someone who enjoys process, accuracy, and vendor relationship management, and who wants to support an organization that delivers emergency relief around the world. Key Responsibilities Manage the full-cycle accounts payable process, including invoice receipt, coding, approval routing, and paymentcprocessing, including record-keeping. Match invoices to purchase orders/quotes and receiving all pertinent and necessary documentation to process invoices, and research and resolve discrepancies. Maintain the vendor master file, including new vendor setup, W-9 collection, and banking details, applying fraud-prevention controls to protect against payment fraud, run OFAC search for local and international compliance. Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve payment discrepancies promptly and professionally. Reconcile vendor statements and prepare/review AP aging reports, following up on outstanding items. Ensure invoices are coded correctly to the general ledger and to the appropriate mission, fund or grant, in line with donor and grant restrictions. Prepare annual Form 1099 filings and maintain required vendor tax documentation. Global Empowerment Mission — Job Posting Support month-end close by ensuring all invoices are recorded and the AP subledger reconciles to the general ledger. Maintain organized, accurate AP files and supporting documentation to keep the organization audit-ready. Support rapid, accurate vendor payment processing during disaster-response activations to keep relief operations running without interruption. Qualifications Required Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered. 2+ years of accounts payable or general accounting experience. Working knowledge of AP processes and internal controls. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills. Ability to handle confidential vendor and financial data with discretion. Preferred Experience with QuickBooks. Prior exposure to nonprofit or fund/grant accounting. Experience preparing Form 1099s and maintaining vendor tax compliance.
