$36,900 Make a Difference Behind the Numbers! Are you organized, detail-oriented, and someone who enjoys keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes? The River Valley Regional Commission is looking for a Financial Assistant to join our Finance Department and play an important role in supporting accurate, efficient financial operations. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a mix of accounting, administration, problem-solving, and working with people . You'll help keep payments moving, financial records accurate, employee information up to date, and day-to-day finance processes on track. River Valley Regional Commission (RVRC) is a regional planning and economic development organization serving 16 counties and 35 communities in West Central Georgia, helping local governments and communities plan for growth, strengthen economies, and improve quality of life. Its work spans community and economic development, workforce development, transportation and infrastructure planning, environmental and historic preservation, grant assistance, and services for older adults. What You'll Do As a Financial Assistant, you'll have a variety of responsibilities, including: Process invoices, payments, checks, ACH transactions, and remote bank deposits. Maintain accurate accounts payable records and assist with fiscal year-end and year-opening activities. Reconcile accounts and review financial data for accuracy and completeness. Prepare and process bi-weekly travel expense payments. Prepare financial reports and provide administrative support to the Finance Department. Maintain employee leave records, timesheets, payroll change forms, and other required files. Support new-hire processes, including E-Verify, background checks, drug screenings, and enrollment paperwork. Help oversee workers' compensation claims and maintain required workplace compliance postings. Work with coworkers, vendors, and members of the public to exchange information, provide assistance, and resolve questions or problems. Jump in on other Finance Department projects and duties as needed. What You'll Bring We're looking for someone who is: Detail-oriented and takes pride in getting the numbers right. Organized and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Comfortable with numbers and routine financial calculations. Tech-savvy , with the ability to work with accounting, spreadsheet, word-processing, and other office software. A strong communicator who can work effectively with coworkers, vendors, and the public. Familiar with GAAP, bookkeeping practices, and/or governmental accounting . Able to understand and follow applicable federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Education & Experience A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. An associate degree in business/accounting combined with relevant experience may also be considered. Related experience, an internship, apprenticeship, or experience in a similar accounting or administrative position is a plus.
