Job Description

The Apartment Gallery is seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting department across a growing multifamily portfolio. Reporting to the Director of Asset Management, this role oversees financial close, internal controls, tax coordination, and banking relationships while supervising a team of Senior Accountants, Staff Accountants, and AP Clerks. We are looking for a bachelor's degree in accounting (CPA preferred), 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with supervisory responsibility, and advanced Excel skills (Yardi a plus). Experience managing accounting across multiple property entities, banks and bank accounts is strongly preferred.
Requirements:

Thorough knowledge of accounting theory and internal control practices Experience managing monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing and reporting processes. Advanced Excel and accounting software proficiency (Yardi experience preferred). Strong analytical, communication, leadership, supervisory, and organizational skills.
Responsibilities:
Supervise, direct, and develop Senior Accountants, Staff Accountants and Accounts Payable Clerks. Provide leadership and operational oversight of the Accounting Department, including Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Treasury Management, and related functions. Drive continuous improvement by leveraging technology and best practices to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the accounting function. Ensure accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial books and records. Develop, maintain, and enforce accounting policies, processes and procedures balancing efficiency with sound internal controls. Direct and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements. Coordinate the preparation of federal, state, and local business entity tax returns with external accounting firm. Partner with Asset Management, Property Management, and leadership team members to identify significant variances, trends, and issues. Support due diligence and onboarding for acquisitions, dispositions or refinancing when needed. Coordinate the accounting aspects of the annual budgeting process for property operating budgets. Maintain banking relationships with various financial institutions. Prepare lender, investor, and other external financial reporting as needed. Oversee sales/use tax, personal property tax, and other required filings. Serve as backup for payroll processing to ensure business continuity.
