The RBT provides direct one-on-one interventions to clients, most commonly individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental and behavioral challenges. Primary responsibilities include implementing individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) designed by the supervising BCBA, collecting and recording accurate behavioral data, and assisting clients in developing communication, social, academic, and daily living skills. The RBT applies evidence-based ABA strategies to reduce maladaptive behaviors and teach replacement behaviors that promote independence and improved quality of life. The RBT is expected to maintain professionalism, follow ethical and confidentiality standards set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) , and ensure that all interventions are implemented consistently and effectively. Collaboration is key — the RBT communicates regularly with supervising clinicians, participates in ongoing training, and may provide parent or caregiver support under supervision. This role requires patience, attention to detail, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills. The RBT often works in homes, schools, clinics, or community settings, adapting to client needs and demonstrating flexibility. By delivering compassionate, data-driven support, the RBT plays a crucial role in helping clients achieve measurable and meaningful behavioral progress.
