Job Description

The Richland Hospital & Clinics is seeking a Medical Coder/Analyst to join our Health Information Management team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional to play a key role in accurate coding and documentation that supports patient care and billing processes. This is an on-site position and is not eligible for remote work The Coder/Analyst is responsible for reviewing the diagnostic and procedural documentation in the complete patient medical records. The Coder/Analyst codes the records utilizing the ICD-9-CM/ICD-10CM and CPT-4 coding systems, sequences diagnoses and procedures, and assigns DRG's to facilitate the billing process. The Coder/Analyst also assists in assuring the accurate coding done in other departments such as Anesthesia to assure adherence to the facility Compliance Plan and coding guidelines. Assists in the maintenance of the quality of documentation and in performance improvement efforts in the facility. Acts as a resource person for questions regarding coding and billing procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and code medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems.
  • Sequence diagnoses and procedures and assign appropriate DRGs.
  • Collaborate with billing and clinical teams to ensure coding accuracy.
  • Monitor provider documentation and assist in quality improvement efforts.
  • Stay current with regulatory guidelines and coding standards
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
  • Technical diploma or associate degree required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Credentialing (CPC, CPH, RHIT) preferred or willing to obtain.
  • Knowledge of
ICD-10-CM, CPT-4
