The Medical Director provides clinical leadership and medical oversight to help ensure that Woven's services are safe, high-quality, evidence-based, compliant, and aligned with the Clinic's mission. Position Summary This is a part-time (maximum of 8-10 hours a month) physician leadership role. The Medical Director helps lead the clinical operations of Woven Health Clinic and provides support and guidance to Clinic physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other clinical providers. The Medical Director serves as Woven's principal physician advisor on clinical quality, patient safety, medical standards, scope of care, provider clinical competency, and clinical/regulatory risk. The Medical Director works in close partnership with the Executive Director and clinical leadership. The Executive Director retains responsibility for day-to-day organizational operations, administration, financial management, human resources administration, and implementation of Board-approved strategy. The Medical Director retains responsibility for professional medical judgment and the clinical oversight assigned to this role. Key Responsibilities 1. Clinical Leadership & Standards
- Provide clinical leadership and medical oversight for Woven's approved clinical services.
- Establish, review, and approve clinical policies, practice standards, protocols, and evidence-based guidelines.
- Provide guidance to Clinic physicians, nurse practitioners, and other clinical providers.
- Advice on Woven's long-range planning, medical standards, clinical services, and scope of care.
- Run at least one clinical leadership and provider meeting per month and attend others on an as needed basis in which and help lead clinical policy, patient treatment and practice-standards are discussed. 2. Quality, Patient Safety & PCMH
- Provide medical oversight of clinical quality, patient-safety, and Quality Performance Improvement activities.
- Review relevant clinical quality indicators and support corrective or improvement initiatives.
- Advise and approve applicable Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) policies and guidelines and champion maintenance of PCMH standards.
- Support compliance with standards established by applicable accrediting and governmental review organizations.
- Review significant clinical incidents, adverse events, or recurring clinical concerns requiring physician oversight. 3. Clinical Compliance, Licensure & Risk
- Help ensure clinical services comply with applicable professional standards, licensure and scope-of-practice requirements, clinical documentation expectations, payer requirements, and Woven policies.
- Identify and promptly escalate material concerns involving patient safety, professional licensure, clinical compliance, malpractice/professional liability, or other medical risk.
- Provide clinical input for regulatory, accreditation, payer, grant, or audit matters when physician expertise is required. 4. Provider Oversight, Recruitment & Development
- Contribute to recruitment, credentialing, onboarding, and clinical evaluation of physicians, nurse practitioners, and other key clinical providers.
- Evaluate and advise Clinic providers as necessary regarding clinical competency, quality, scope of practice, and professional standards.
- Participate in initial and annual provider performance evaluations where clinical assessment is appropriate.
- Provide or arrange clinical supervision when required by law, regulation, payer requirements, or Woven policy. 5. Scope of Care, Patient Appropriateness & Referrals
- Help establish clinical criteria defining services and conditions Woven can safely and appropriately manage.
- Approve or advise on clinical escalation, referral, and warm-handoff standards for patients whose needs fall outside Woven's scope.
- Support consistent, clinically appropriate decision-making regarding patient acceptance, referral, and continuity of care. 6. New or Modified Clinical Services
- Define and validate clinical requirements for major systems affecting patient care, including EHR functionality, clinical documentation, workflows, clinical decision support, quality reporting, and patient-safety requirements particularly as they apply to HIPAA regulations.
- Provide documented clinical sign-off before implementation when a material change affects clinical standards, patient safety, provider responsibilities, or scope of care.
- Clinical sign-off does not replace financial, operational, Executive Director, committee, or Board approvals required under Woven's governance policies and Delegation of Authority. 7. Clinical Technology & Workflow
- Define and validate clinical requirements for major systems affecting patient care, including EHR functionality, clinical documentation, workflows, clinical decision support, quality reporting, and patient-safety requirements.
- Partner with the Executive Director and implementation teams on significant clinical workflow changes while preserving appropriate clinical judgment and standards. 8. Executive Director, Board & Committee Partnership
- Meet regularly with the Executive Director and clinical leadership to address clinical operations, risks, priorities, and significant changes.
- Serve as a standing clinical advisor to the Patient Services Committee and participate in Board discussions when significant clinical matters require medical expertise. The Medical Director is an invitee to bimonthly board meetings on a non-voting basis.
- Provide concise, objective clinical input to support Board and management decisions while respecting governance and management boundaries. 9. Community & External Relationships
- Represent Woven clinically with healthcare partners and community stakeholders when appropriate.
- Support grants, funder discussions, partnerships, and community initiatives when clinical expertise or physician credibility adds value.
- Help strengthen referral relationships and partnerships that improve patient access and continuity of care.
Independent Clinical Escalation The Medical Director will ordinarily raise material concerns involving clinical quality, patient safety, scope of practice, credentialing, medical standards, clinical compliance, or professional accountability with the Executive Director and collaborate on a timely, documented response. The Medical Director may communicate directly with the Board Chair and, as appropriate, the Patient Services Committee Chair or Executive Committee, without prior approval from the Executive Director when the concern:
- presents an immediate or material risk to patient safety, quality of care, professional licensure, regulatory compliance, or professional liability;
- involves the Executive Director, creates a conflict of interest, or has not been timely or adequately resolved through the ordinary management process;
- raises a reasonable concern regarding retaliation, suppression, or inappropriate interference with professional clinical judgment; or
- requires direct reporting under applicable law, regulation, professional obligation, insurance requirement, or Woven policy.
Except when urgency, conflict, confidentiality, patient safety, or legal or professional requirements make prior notice inappropriate, the Medical Director will inform the Executive Director concurrently with the escalation or as promptly thereafter as reasonably practicable. A good-faith escalation should identify the concern, relevant facts, immediate or potential risk, actions already taken, unresolved issues, and the decision or support requested. Good-faith escalation under this provision will not be considered circumvention of the Executive Director's management authority. This reporting channel does not authorize the Medical Director to direct nonclinical operations or make financial, personnel, administrative, or other decisions outside delegated authority. - MD or DO degree from an accredited school of medicine and successful completion of an appropriate residency program.
- Current, unrestricted Texas medical license and ability to maintain all credentials required for the role.
- Reside within the greater DFW area with the ability to periodically visit the Woven clinics.
- Substantial clinical experience (minimum of 10 years) in family medicine, speciality, or another discipline appropriate to Woven's approved clinical scope.
- Experience serving culturally diverse, underserved, uninsured, or underinsured patient populations strongly preferred.
- Experience with Patient-Centered Medical Home standards and certification processes preferred.
- Demonstrated clinical leadership, communication, collaboration, judgment, and analytical skills.
