Job Description

Job Summary The Registered Nurse First Assistant serves as a member of the healthcare team and provides technical support to the surgeon, registered nurse, and anesthesiologist in the operating room. Assumes appropriate responsibilities in the perioperative area i.e. scrubbing, assist scrubbing, RN circulator, setting up and breaking down surgical procedures, pulling and putting away supplies, equipment and environmental service duties. Performs other duties as requested. Requires high degree of responsibility, confidentiality and discretion. Remains calm and effective in stressful situations and provides support in emergency situations. Ensures safe, effective and efficient patient care to achieve desired patient outcomes and optimal patient satisfaction. Able to prioritize, organize, multi-task, and take direction. Demonstrates attention to accuracy and detail. Supports the organization mission and vision. Promotes teamwork and functions as a team member providing care that encompasses compassion, collaboration and trust. Possesses a moral obligation to promote the welfare, health and safety of the patient, and to advocate on the patient's behalf whenever necessary. Duties Scrub as a First Assistant in surgeries including Total Joints, sports medicine, podiatry, general surgery, plastic surgery. Position the patient for surgery, prep the surgical site, drape the surgical field, assist under guidance of the surgeon in retracting, suctioning, electocautery, tying, suturing, closing surgical incisions and dressing the surgical site Assume other roles in the perioperative setting as needed (i.e. RN circulator, RN scrub) Assists anesthesia with induction as needed Assists in transport of patient Assists in turning over operating room between cases - removing soiled supplies and trash, cleaning the room, retrieving supplies for other cases, preparing the room for surgery Assists in room stocking and preparing for the next day's cases as needed Skills •Total Joint Replacement experience preferred •OR Experience required Knowledgeable of nursing policies and procedures in compliance with licensure and accreditation Able to work efficiently in a high paced team environment Knowledgeable of suture technique and retracting Knowledge of surgeon preferences, procedures, instrumentation, and equipment Verbal skills to effectively listen and communicate Math skills to count sponges, sutures, sharps and instrumentation accurately Join our team of dedicated professionals who are committed to providing exceptional patient care.
