Instructor of Nursing

POSITION SUMMARY

Hiram College invites applicants for a full-time (9-month) faculty position at the rank of Instructor in Nursing in the Department of Nursing, beginning January 2026 (Spring Semester). The primary purpose of the position is to teach in the Nursing program, coordinate, plan, prepare, present, and assess classroom and clinical instruction, and lead related learning activities for courses in that program as well as courses that contribute to the liberal arts core curriculum of the College. Applicants should provide evidence of a commitment to student-centered teaching within a liberal arts tradition, clinical excellence, and the ability to engage in the life of the College by providing service to students and committees. The ideal candidate will be interested in working with students to facilitate impactful clinical placements and experiential learning opportunities. Special attention will be given to candidates interested in collaborative, interdisciplinary teaching and simulation-based pedagogy.

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

: The successful applicant will have the educational and clinical experience in nursing necessary to teach both introductory and specialized clinical courses.

Primary teaching responsibilities include:

• Fundamentals of Professional Clinical Nursing (didactic, skills laboratory, and clinical practicum).

• Pediatric Nursing and/or Parental-Newborn/Child Health Nursing. The teaching load is typically 22-24 credit hours per academic year (or clinical equivalent) across Hiram's semester structure, which includes 12-week and 3-week terms. Other responsibilities include direct clinical supervision and skills lab instruction, academic advising, contributions to our core curriculum and first-year program, service to the College and department, and maintaining professional clinical currency.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution (or enrolled in an MSN program with confirmed completion prior to start date); an active, unencumbered Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license (or eligibility for Ohio RN licensure); and direct clinical practice experience in pediatrics, maternal-child health, or foundational adult care.

Preferred:

Prior clinical or classroom teaching experience in an undergraduate nursing program, experience with clinical simulation, and professional nursing specialty certifications (e.g., CPN, RNC-MNN, CNE).
