Duties Perform ophthalmic patient examinations, including measuring vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse to assess overall health status. Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment like A-scan biometry and tonometry devices to assist in diagnosing eye conditions. Assist with eye refraction procedures to determine the best corrective lenses for patients. Maintain strict adherence to clinical confidentiality policies and ensure patient information is protected in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Prepare and manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR) systems accurately, documenting patient histories, test results, and treatment plans. Support intake processes by collecting patient histories, explaining procedures, and answering questions to foster comfort and understanding. Apply aseptic techniques during clinical procedures to prevent infection and ensure a sterile environment for all examinations. Operate medical equipment safely and efficiently while following proper protocols for ophthalmic diagnostic testing. Provide direct patient care by assisting with ophthalmic examinations, explaining procedures clearly, and ensuring patient comfort throughout visits. Maintain inventory of ophthalmic supplies and ensure all medical records are organized and up-to-date for seamless clinic operations. Skills Strong knowledge of ophthalmology principles, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to eye care; preferred. Proficiency in using ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as A-scan biometry devices and tonometers; preferred. Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EHR) management systems for accurate documentation; preferred. Excellent patient service skills with the ability to communicate clearly, compassionately, and professionally is a plus. Understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Ability to perform intake assessments efficiently while providing a welcoming environment for patients is a plus Knowledge of medical office procedures including scheduling, billing, retail math (for optical sales), and inventory management is a plus. Familiarity with clinical confidentiality policies and aseptic techniques necessary for safe ophthalmic examinations is a plus. Basic understanding of optical experience related to eye refraction and optical device operation is a plus.
