Job Description

Piedmont Healthcare is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide high-quality respiratory care, including assessment, treatment, and education for patients with cardiopulmonary conditions. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced clinical environment, ensuring safe and effective patient-centered care. Responsibilities Assess patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions and develop individualized respiratory care plans Administer oxygen therapy, inhaled medications, chest physiotherapy, and other respiratory treatments per provider orders and protocols Set up, manage, and monitor invasive and non invasive mechanical ventilation and related respiratory equipment Perform arterial blood gas sampling, analysis, and interpretation and communicate results promptly to the care team Conduct pulmonary function and other respiratory diagnostic tests as appropriate to the care setting Respond to respiratory emergencies, including rapid responses and code situations, providing airway management and ventilatory support Educate patients and families on respiratory disease management, inhaler technique, equipment use, and discharge care plans Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely in the electronic medical record Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the multidisciplinary team during rounds and care conferences to optimize patient outcomes Follow infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards while participating in quality and performance improvement initiatives Required Skills Respiratory assessment and care planning Mechanical ventilation setup and management (invasive and non invasive) Oxygen therapy and aerosolized medication administration Chest physiotherapy and airway clearance techniques Arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation Pulmonary function and bedside respiratory diagnostics Emergency airway management and code/rapid response participation Knowledge of respiratory pharmacology Use and troubleshooting of respiratory equipment and monitors Electronic medical record documentation Patient and family education on respiratory conditions and treatments Infection prevention and control practices Interdisciplinary communication and teamwork Critical thinking and clinical decision making in acute care Time management and prioritization in high acuity settings
