A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description

Piedmont Healthcare is seeking a PRN Registered Respiratory Therapist to deliver high-quality respiratory care across our network. In this role, you will assess, treat, and monitor patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions, administer therapeutic gases and medications, manage ventilators, and perform diagnostic tests. You will collaborate closely with physicians and the care team to develop and adjust treatment plans, document care accurately, and support patient and family education. Responsibilities Assess, plan, and deliver respiratory care for patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions. Administer oxygen, medications, and aerosol therapies per physician orders and protocols. Set up, manage, and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilation equipment. Perform and interpret basic diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gases and pulmonary function tests. Monitor patient responses, adjust therapy, and communicate changes to the interdisciplinary care team. Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record. Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use, and home-care instructions. Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory standards in all respiratory procedures. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to support coordinated, patient-centered care. Participate in ongoing training and professional development offered by Piedmont Healthcare.
