Surgical Technologist II

Location:

Houston Medical Center

Starting Pay Rate:

$44.50 / Hour + (Based on experience)

Schedule:

6:30am - 5:00pm with a day off during the week. On-Call is a requirement.

Dean's Professional Services is actively seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist II to join a leading healthcare facility in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, knowledgeable in sterile technique, and experienced in assisting with a variety of surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

Prepare and organize the operating room according to the surgical procedure and patient needs.

Ensure all surgical instruments, implants, prostheses, medications, and supplies are properly prepared and available.

Maintain a sterile field and apply sterile technique throughout surgical procedures.

Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team to ensure efficient workflow during operations.

Perform accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments according to established policies and procedures.

Assist with the proper handling, labeling, and transport of surgical specimens.

Set up back tables and arrange surgical instruments and supplies based on the procedure and surgeon preference cards.

Scrub, gown, and glove according to operating room protocols and recommended practices.

Assist in the cleaning, inspection, and proper care of surgical instruments and equipment.

Operate sterilization equipment and follow established sterilization and infection control standards.

Support department efficiency by following procedures for processing sterile and contaminated instruments.

Participate in continuing education and training to maintain clinical competency.

Qualifications

Must have prior experience in cardiothoracic (not cardiovascular) and scrubbing cardiac bypass/pump cases.

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist training program or military surgical training program (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or U.S. Public Health Service).

Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist with experience in two or more surgical specialties.

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or certification through the National Center for Competency Testing.

Knowledge of sterilization systems including steam, EO, and low-temperature sterilization methods.

Experience with washer/disinfector operations, ultrasonic cleaners, and biological and chemical indicator testing.

Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and operating room procedures.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment while maintaining patient safety and quality standards.
