Villa Lorena Senior Living Position Overview Villa Lorena Senior Living is seeking an experienced, passionate, and wellness-focused Executive Chef to lead and elevate our dining services program. This is a critical leadership role for a culinary professional who values both nutrition and hospitality and thrives in a mission-driven, senior-focused environment. The Executive Chef will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, creating nutritious, gourmet menus aligned with the Food is Medicine movement, and working collaboratively with other departments to deliver exceptional dining experiences. You'll also manage staff, maintain food safety compliance, and contribute to the vibrant community culture through special events and personalized dining services. Key Responsibilities Dining Services & Culinary Leadership Direct all kitchen and dining operations, ensuring efficient, high-quality service and compliance with Title 22 and health regulations. Supervise, schedule, train, and mentor kitchen and dining staff, promoting teamwork, creativity, and a commitment to excellence. Prepare nutritious meals that are tailored to the dietary needs of seniors, with an emphasis on dementia-friendly, heart-healthy, sugar-free, and whole food-based options. Maintain a safe and clean kitchen environment, managing food preparation, sanitation practices, and kitchen equipment maintenance. Menu Development & Nutrition Design and implement seasonal, innovative menus using whole, organic, and healing ingredients to support senior wellness and cognitive function. Work closely with dietary and healthcare staff to develop personalized meal plans aligned with residents' health needs and preferences. Incorporate the latest trends in nutrition and therapeutic food practices, championing the Food is Medicine philosophy. Inventory, Budget, and Vendor Management Oversee food inventory, procurement, and vendor relationships to ensure the availability of premium ingredients while managing food costs effectively. Maintain accurate records and ensure timely food orders and deliveries. Events & Community Engagement Collaborate with the Activities Director to plan and execute themed dinners, holiday meals, and community events that enhance resident engagement and satisfaction. Provide room service and support catering services, including promotion to local organizations as appropriate. Build positive relationships with residents by being present in the dining room and welcoming feedback to continuously improve services. Administrative & Operational Support Participate in community event planning, emergency response efforts, and interdepartmental collaboration. Perform hands-on cooking duties for 2-4 shifts per week. Conduct regular staff meetings and training sessions focused on food safety, culinary skills, and operational procedures. Qualifications Education & Experience Culinary degree or minimum of 2 years in culinary or hospitality studies. Minimum 5 years of experience in food service management, ideally within senior living, healthcare, or upscale hospitality. Experience in dementia care or health-supportive culinary practices strongly preferred. Skills & Attributes In-depth knowledge of nutrition, food safety, dietary requirements, and menu planning. Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage a fast-paced kitchen while maintaining high culinary and safety standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Certifications & Requirements Food Safety Certification (SERV Safe or equivalent)
