This position works under the direction of more experienced cooks or the chef, and is focused on developing skills. Essential Job Responsibilities Prepare and portion food ingredients following standardized recipes. Maintain portion control to meet budgetary requirements. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and kitchen/storage areas. Ensure proper handling, labeling and storage of food for infection control. Cook basic menu items (e.g., soups, vegetables, breakfast items). Prepare meats for storage and portion control upon delivery. Ensure proper storage of all delivered foods and ingredients. Assist with dishwashing and kitchen sanitation, as needed. Participate in beverage or food serving, as needed. Notify manager of food supply needs and malfunctioning equipment or appliances. Assist in the recording of Ready
  • to•Use•food items into the TELS website, ensuring three items are recorded with each meal.
Record cooler, freezer and dish machine temperatures in the TELS website. Report any on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs. Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, community operations and personnel. Other duties as assigned. Education, Experience, and Other Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age Basic understanding of food preparation and kitchen safety Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Practice safety in working with and around kitchen equipment. Promote teamwork in providing services to residents. Knowledge of food handling and kitchen safety standards Operation of kitchen appliances (dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, mixer, etc.) Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs. Preferred Qualifications Certificate in food-preparation training is preferred Willingness to learn and help others Enjoyment in working with older adults #IND
