JOB DESCRIPTION
The Asheville Symphony is seeking friendly, reliable, and confident House Managers to join our Front-of-House team for the 2026-27 season. House Managers are the primary front-of-house leaders during Asheville Symphony performances, managing Event Staff and Volunteers to create a safe, welcoming, accessible, and organized experience for every patron. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in a fast-paced event environment, and can remain calm and solutions-oriented when the unexpected happens. House Managers work closely with Asheville Symphony staff, venue personnel, event staff, and volunteer ushers to coordinate concert operations and provide an exceptional patron experience.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a visible and approachable front-of-house leader during performances. Coordinate and provide direction to event staff and volunteer ushers, including position assignments, onboarding, and troubleshooting. Assist with pre-concert setup and ensure front-of-house positions are prepared before doors open. Monitor lobby, seating, and patron flow before, during, and after performances. Assist patrons with seating questions, accessibility needs, late seating, and other concerns. Proactively identify and resolve patron-service issues while maintaining a calm, welcoming, and professional environment. Monitor the patron experience during performances and respond appropriately to disruptions or other concerns. Coordinate with Asheville Symphony staff, security, venue personnel, and fellow House Managers as needed. Assist with emergency procedures and patron safety when necessary. Support post-concert patron exit, staff and volunteer dismissal, teardown, and front-of-house reporting.QUALIFICATIONS
1-2 years experience in a box office setting, house management, hospitality, events, or customer service. Background in the arts preferred. Ability to multitask, adaptability, problem solving, and attention to detail are all essential skills to this position's success. Ability to work with multiple diverse teams in changing capacities and remain level during long event days. Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills are essential. Friendly and professional demeanor that engenders relationships with donors, patrons and colleagues. Is dependable, organized, and comfortable taking initiative. Remains calm and uses good judgement when solving problems or navigating challenging situations.SCHEDULING
This is a part-time, event-based position. House Managers are generally expected to work at least seven performances per season. Availability is collected approximately one month before each concert, with shifts typically finalized three weeks prior to the performance. Shifts are typically 4-5 hours long for a single performance, though you are welcome to work double shifts for the Masterworks concerts, which have both matinee and evening performances. The schedule for the 2026-27 season is as follows: Sunday, September 6th, 2026: Symphony in the Park Saturday, September 26th, 2026: Masterworks 1: Fellowship Saturday, October 17th, 2026: Masterworks 2: Nightfall Saturday, November 14th, 2026: Masterworks 3: Double Take Tuesday, November 17th, 2026: Solo Piano Showcase Saturday, December 19th, 2026: Handel's Messiah Saturday, February 20th, 2027: Masterworks 4: London Saturday, March 20th, 2027: Masterworks 5: Dedication Saturday, April 17th, 2027: Masterworks 6: Marquee Saturday, May 22nd, 2027: Masterworks 7: HomelandORGANIZATION/ORCHESTRA DESCRIPTION
