Note:
This job is physically challenging. Climbing ladders, moving hoses, shoveling grapes, and cleaning are all part of the job. Bellview is a 10,000 case per annum winery located in the Outer Coastal Plains AVA of southern New Jersey. We are searching for a Cellar Hand/Cellar Master who is willing to learn and participate in all steps of the winemaking process. The general role of the position is to collaborate with and take direction from the winemaker to ensure our standards are met at every point from vineyard to bottle. We are a small team and the ideal candidate will be willing to fulfill the responsibilities listed below while remaining receptive to other roles they may be asked to temporarily fill. In return, the selected candidate will be presented with opportunities to advance and expand their role at the winery. We are open to candidates from all backgrounds, but fluent English and the ability to lift 50-75 lbs. is essential.
  • Math skills and the ability to follow written instructions is paramount! Cellar Operations
  • Blending and transfers of wine
  • Bottling line preparation, operation and maintenance
  • Forklift operations and maintenance
  • Plate and frame filtration
  • Barrel topping, transfers, and stacking
  • Tank cleaning (removal of tartrates, lees, biofilm)
  • Addition of fining agents and other wine additives
  • Tracking inventory of all products used in cellar (cleaning products, additives, etc.)
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly cellar at all times
  • Maintaining ideal condition of pumps and other equipment
  • Managing processing of fruit and must during harvest (Setup, operation, and maintenance of augers, hoppers and must pumps)
  • Operating pneumatic press Laboratory Operations
  • Conducting blending trials
  • Titrations for measuring acidity
  • Bench trials for fining agents and additives
  • Measuring sulfite concentrations and pH
  • Operating specialized lab equipment (Ebulliometer, Centrifuge etc.) Non-Winemaking Responsibilities
  • Data entry and record keeping of all activities carried out in cellar using wine production software
  • Updating technical wine data for online and in-person customers
  • Restocking tasting room inventory
  • Assisting in hosting festivals when needed
  • Assisting in tasting room customer service when needed
  • Attending occasional industry conferences and meetings
  • Assisting in vineyard maintenance and general farm work when needed
  • Collaborating with team in marketing and production decision making A background in food or wine processing or wine internship is a plus.
Salary is negotiable with regards to experience.
