Job Description
North Star Lodge is seeking a friendly, dependable, and guest-focused Front Desk Agent to join our team in Killington, Vermont. The Front Desk Agent is one of the most important points of contact for our guests. This position is responsible for creating a welcoming arrival experience, assisting guests throughout their stay, handling reservations and payments accurately, and helping ensure the hotel operates smoothly from day to day. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working independently, solving problems, communicating clearly, and taking ownership of the guest experience. Hospitality experience is helpful, but a strong attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn are equally important. Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Service Welcome guests in a friendly, professional manner and provide an excellent first impression of North Star Lodge. Complete guest check-ins and check-outs efficiently and accurately. Assist guests with questions about the hotel, Killington, restaurants, skiing, activities, transportation, and the surrounding area. Respond to guest requests and concerns promptly and professionally. Follow up when appropriate to ensure guest issues have been resolved. Help create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that reflects the personality of an independent Vermont mountain hotel. Reservations & Front Desk Operations Create, modify, and cancel reservations in the hotel's property management system. Review upcoming arrivals and departures and prepare for each shift. Verify room assignments, rates, packages, payment information, and reservation notes. Answer incoming telephone calls and respond to guest inquiries. Assist guests making direct reservations and explain room types, rates, policies, and amenities. Maintain accurate guest profiles and reservation information. Communicate important information between shifts and departments. Payments & Cash Handling Process credit card and cash transactions accurately. Collect deposits and outstanding balances in accordance with hotel policies. Maintain accurate records of payments, refunds, adjustments, and incidental charges. Follow established procedures for protecting guest payment information and preventing fraud. Complete shift reconciliation and cash-handling responsibilities when required. Hotel Operations Coordinate closely with housekeeping and maintenance regarding room status, guest requests, early arrivals, late departures, and maintenance issues. Monitor room readiness and communicate updates to arriving guests. Assist with lobby and public-area presentation when necessary. Report safety, security, maintenance, or cleanliness concerns promptly. Follow hotel emergency, security, and guest privacy procedures. Support other departments when needed to keep hotel operations running smoothly. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is: Friendly and comfortable interacting with a wide variety of guests. Dependable and punctual. Organized and detail-oriented. Comfortable using computers and learning new technology. Able to communicate professionally in person, by telephone, and in writing. Capable of remaining calm and making good decisions when problems arise. Comfortable working independently while also being part of a small hotel team. Willing to take initiative rather than waiting to be told what needs to be done. Able to balance excellent customer service with following hotel policies. Previous hotel, hospitality, retail, restaurant, or customer-service experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate . Experience with Cloudbeds or another hotel property management system is a plus. Schedule North Star Lodge operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week , and scheduling may include: Weekdays Weekends Holidays Morning and evening shifts Because Killington is a seasonal resort destination, availability during weekends, holidays, and peak ski periods is particularly important. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to: Remain standing or seated at the front desk for extended periods. Move throughout the hotel as necessary to assist guests. Occasionally lift or move items weighing approximately 25 pounds. Perform routine computer, telephone, and front-desk duties throughout a shift. Why Work at North Star Lodge?
