A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Performs, plans, assigns, and supervises general custodial functions such as sweeping, mopping, and dusting of restrooms, offices, and other areas within buildings and facilities; the cleaning of office furniture, walls, light fixtures, windows, and floors; and the emptying of trash. Tours and inspects buildings and facilities for cleanliness, completed work, and needed repairs. Plans, prepares, and approves employee work schedules; reviews and approves leave requests, performs performance management, and prepares reports of work activities. Maintains records related to inspections, maintenance, personnel, and budgets. Inventories stock to ensure that supplies and equipment are available in adequate amounts. Checks and maintains equipment to ensure that it is in working order. Instructs and trains staff in work policies and procedures, and the use and maintenance of cleaning materials, chemicals, and equipment. Performs related work as assigned. Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures and inventory control principles and methods. Skill in the use of custodial materials and chemicals and the operation of custodial equipment. Ability to inspect work areas, to prepare reports, and to coordinate and supervise the work of others. Must communicate (both verbal and written) effectively, and apply discretion and comprehensive understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Requires knowledge of machinery related to custodial operations Requires listening, interpersonal, computer and leadership skills Ability to work well under time constraints Must maintain friendly, efficient, positive customer service demeanor toward customers, clients and co-workers Is adaptable to customer needs
Education:
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in custodial operations 2 to 4 years of experience of managing staff Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
