A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Full Job Description Position Locations:
Horgan & Greenbush Elementary SchoolsReports to:Director of Property ServicesEssential Job Functions:
1) Keeps building and premises, including side walks, entrances, hydrants, and play areas neat and clean at all times (including removal of snow).2) Cleans and maintains all boilers and other major equipment.3) Regulates heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.4)Examine school facilities and grounds on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance. Inform the head custodian and/or Director of Property Services of needed or potential repairs and/or maintenance which cannot be corrected at the building level.5)Keep the grounds free from rubbish.6)Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in good state of preservation.6)Complete minor building repairs.7)Maintains on a regular schedule all motor and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.8)Reports immediately to the head custodian and Director of Property Services any damage to school property.9)Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the principal/ Director of Property Services.10)Assumes responsibility for the general security of the building and the general fire safety of the building.11)Assumes responsibility for opening and closing of the buildings each day which includes securing all doors and windows and turning off all lights, except for those left on for safety reasons.12)Moves furniture, equipment and or supplies within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the head custodian, principal and/or Director of Property Services.13)Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.Performs other duties assigned by the Director of Property Services and building principal.
