Job Description

Description We are looking for an experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager to support a contract assignment based in Augusta, Maine. This role will lead core HR operations with a strong focus on employee relations, benefits administration, onboarding, and HR systems support. The position requires someone who is detail oriented and can navigate union-related matters, address workplace concerns with sound judgment, and help guide organizational change in a structured and compliant manner.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage day-to-day human resources operations, ensuring policies, documentation, and employee records are maintained accurately and consistently.
  • Serve as a primary resource for employee relations matters by investigating concerns, recommending resolutions, and supporting fair workplace practices.
  • Administer benefit programs and assist employees with enrollment, eligibility questions, and issue resolution related to coverage and claims.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities for new hires, helping create a smooth transition into the organization and ensuring completion of required employment processes.
  • Maintain and update HRIS data, generate reports, and support system-related HR processes to improve accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with leadership and stakeholders on union-related topics, including contract interpretation, grievance handling, and workforce communication.
  • Support the resolution of union and medical grievances by gathering information, documenting findings, and following established procedures.
  • Assist with organizational changes by advising on people impacts, communication needs, and change management considerations across teams.
  • Contribute to HR administrative projects and process improvements, including responsibilities tied to internal system or workflow changes when needed. Requirements
  • At least 5 years of human resources experience, including responsibility for employee relations and HR administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of benefits administration, onboarding practices, and core HR operational processes.
  • Experience working with HRIS platforms and using HR data to support reporting and process management.
  • Background handling union contract matters, labor relations issues, and grievance processes in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Ability to manage sensitive employee and medical-related concerns with discretion, accuracy, and sound judgment.
  • Strong understanding of organizational change and the ability to support change management initiatives affecting employees and leaders.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills with a high level of consistency and care.
  • Ability to work effectively in a contract position while adapting quickly to organizational priorities and stakeholder needs.
