Animal Caretaker - JOB

DESCRIPTION

Longhopes Donkey Shelter is hiring an Animal Caretaker for our Bennett, Colorado shelter. Longhopes is dedicated to improving the welfare of donkeys through rescue, rehabilitation, re-homing, and permanent sanctuary of donkeys that would otherwise be at risk for neglect, abuse, or death.

MISSION:

To promote donkeys as companion animals who thrive in bonded pairs, and to nurture donkeys at risk of neglect, abuse and death through programs of rescue, rehabilitation, rehoming, retirement, and end-of-life services.

POSITION SUMMARY

Assist in the daily care of donkeys: cleaning stalls, watering, feeding, grooming, and socializing donkeys. Helping on farrier visits and veterinary appointments when applicable. Advancement possible.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a current driver's license and reliable transportation. Prior experience caring for animals preferred. Ability to lift, pull, push 50 lbs., repetitively, walk 2 miles, bend, stretch. Ability to work in heat and cold with exposure to hay, dust, pollens, sanitizing agents, and animal dander. Ability to climb a flight of stairs. Ability to safely and effectively handle large animals. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Must have compassion for animals and their welfare; have effective time management skills and the ability to prioritize work duties and tasks, be flexible and adaptable. Must be able to perform in a fast and multi-tasking environment, handle emergency situations, and function with little direct supervision. Must be able to read instructions in English and write daily notes in English. Preference training/experience in equine veterinary medicine.

HOURS:

8AM-4PM.

HOURLY:

$18-24 starting DOE. Successful candidate must submit and pass a criminal background check.

Education:

High school diploma (required)

Experience:

Employment or volunteer work in animal care 1 year minimum. Preference training/experience in equine veterinary medicine.

License/Certification:

$18.00 - $24.00 per hour
