Digital Production & Pet Wrangler / Set Stylist Willow Street Pictures Harleysville & West Lawn, Pennsylvania Full-Time | Tuesday-Saturday A Different Kind of Creative Position Willow Street Pictures is a fine art portrait studio creating emotionally driven lifestyle portraits of families and the pets they love. We're looking for a Digital Production & Pet Wrangler / Set Stylist to join our Creative Team. This is a hands-on creative position with two very different sides. When you're not on a Photo Shoot, you'll work on a Mac within our post-production digital workflow, preparing photographs in programs including Capture One and Phocus/Hasselblad. On Photo Shoot days, you'll step away from the computer and lead what is happening in front of the camera, managing our clients, pets, styling, interaction and session flow while our Lead Photographer operates the camera.

Attention Photographers:

This is not a photographer position and it is not an advanced retouching position. We're looking for someone who genuinely wants the combination of detailed digital-production work and energetic, client-facing creative work.

Digital Production:

A Core Responsibility A major part of this position is taking ownership of defined stages within our post-production digital workflow. Our workflow primarily uses Capture One, Phocus/Hasselblad and Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop is used less often in this position and does not involve advanced retouching.

Your responsibilities will include:

Working through Photo Shoot images in Capture One Evaluating and correcting exposure Making thoughtful cropping decisions Preparing and outputting images Working with Hasselblad files in Phocus Organizing image files and following established naming, folder and file-handling procedures Preparing photographs for the next stage of production Managing assigned stages of the workflow from beginning through completion Recognizing when something isn't right and addressing it rather than simply passing the problem along We'll teach you the Willow Street Pictures workflow and company standards. After training, specific stages of the digital-production process will become your responsibility to manage and complete accurately from beginning to end. Willow Street Pictures operates in a Mac-based environment, so professional or substantial real-world Mac experience is required. You should already be comfortable navigating a Mac, managing files and folders and working efficiently in a Mac-based environment. On Photo Shoot Days Before each Photo Shoot, you'll participate in a Creative Brief with our Lead Photographer to understand the clients, their goals, planned groupings, pets, wardrobe and creative direction. When the clients arrive, you'll get to know the family and their pets, review wardrobe, confirm who's participating and finalize the working shot list. From there, you lead what happens in front of the camera.

You'll:

Develop, manage and complete the working shot list Make sure required family groupings and combinations are fully photographed Read animal behavior and help pets become comfortable and engaged Work with owners to create natural interaction with their pets Direct people, pets, movement and activities to create genuine expressions and emotion Review wardrobe and make confident recommendations Watch hair, clothing, jewelry, posture, hands and other presentation details Organize and manage family groupings Keep a fast-paced Photo Shoot moving while maintaining an enjoyable client experience Review portraits with clients during the Photo Shoot and pay attention to the images that generate the strongest reactions Our photography is primarily lifestyle portraiture with an emotional, candid feeling, including plenty of action and in-the-moment photography. Your job isn't to wait for those moments to happen. You'll direct and create the circumstances that allow them to happen, adapting your approach to different people, personalities and pets. Our Lead Photographer operates the camera while you manage the people, pets, styling, details, interaction and flow of the session. You'll confidently lead what's happening in front of the camera while remaining connected to what the photographer is seeing and collaborating when creative opportunities develop. The goal is confident leadership without ego, creating spontaneous moments while making sure the required photographs and groupings are completed. Pets, Styling & Visual Awareness Pets are part of the overwhelming majority of our Photo Shoots. Loving animals is important, but we're looking for more than simply being a pet lover. You need to be comfortable reading animal behavior, recognizing stress, working safely and adapting to different animals and personalities. You also need a strong visual eye. We want someone who notices when hair needs attention, clothing is bunching, jewelry has shifted, posture or hands aren't working, an accessory is distracting or a grouping needs adjustment. You'll need to be comfortable making confident, thoughtful recommendations rather than seeing a problem and remaining silent. Whenever possible, we want to get it right before the photograph is created rather than depend on Photoshop afterward. That same visual awareness carries into digital production when you're making decisions about exposure, cropping and image preparation. What You Need to Bring We're prepared to teach the Willow Street Pictures workflow, but we're looking for someone who brings: Professional or substantial real-world Mac experience Experience with Capture One, Phocus/Hasselblad, Photoshop or another professional digital photography workflow The ability to learn, retain and independently execute a detailed digital process Strong attention to detail and comfort managing image files and workflows Confidence working directly with animals and adapting to different animal behaviors Strong client-facing communication and the confidence to direct people A strong visual eye for clothing, styling, presentation and photographic details The ability to take ownership of responsibilities and follow them through to completion Relevant experience could come from commercial or portrait photography, photo studio or digital production, photography assisting, pet photography, veterinary or animal-care environments, animal handling or training, set/animal wrangling, or set/wardrobe styling. You do not need to come from another portrait studio, and your résumé doesn't need to check every box. However, animal experience alone is not enough, just as photography experience alone doesn't necessarily mean you've led people or pets on set. We're looking for the unusual combination of digital aptitude, Mac fluency, attention to detail, accountability, visual awareness, animal confidence and people skills. Schedule & Applying This is a full-time, Tuesday-through-Saturday position working at both our Harleysville and West Lawn (near Reading, PA) studios. There is no fixed percentage of Photo Shoot versus post-production work. Some weeks involve more client and pet interaction, while others involve considerably more time at a Mac working through the post-production digital workflow. You need to genuinely enjoy both sides of the position.
