(Purpose of the Position): Students use safe handling methods work to maintain clean habitats for rats and mice in the vivarium, ensuring they have adequate food and clean water. Students also contribute to the general cleanliness and organization of the Vivarium.Transferable Skills:
⚫ Essential Work skills ⚫Organization/Planning Duties and Responsibilities:
⚫ Remove soiled bedding out of rat and mouse cages ⚫ Moniter and assess work load ⚫ Load & unload cage washer machine ⚫ Collaborate workload with co-workers ⚫ Clean cages & add clean bedding ⚫ Other tasks as assigned by professor ⚫ Provide adequate supply of food & waterQualifications:
(Education/Experience/Skills) ⚫ Animal handling experience ⚫ Dependable and punctual ⚫ Willing to consider working during scheduled academic breaks ⚫ Able to work with limited supervision Highly recommend being up to date on DTAP immunizationPhysical and Environmental Factors:
This position requires crouching, stooping, twisting/pivoting, reaching overhead, grasping/handling, pushing/pulling, lifting and carrying objects up to 20 lbs., operating hand tools, and operating equipment or machinery to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise, respiratory factors, and wet or humid conditions indoors, as well as rare exposure to chemicals to perform the essential functions. Protective equipment is required for some essential functions. Candidates must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
