Job Description

A Communication Instructor in the Department of Social Science and Communication will be assigned to teach a full range of lower-divisionCommunication courses (both online and face-to-face). It may also support classes taught at night, on Saturdays, and at outreach centers. This position also supports the Colleges' extensive dual credit mission through mentoring and possible direct dual credit (highschool) instruction. This position also supports the College

Introduction to General Education course. Courseassignments and departmental support is assigned based on greatest need and may vary from semester to semester.
Duties andResponsibilities:
Teach a minimum semester credit load (15-16 hours) of courses (or equivalent) in accordance withthe descriptions published in the CSI catalog. Devote a full time work week to the institution, maintain appropriate office hoursas determined by college policy, and bring to the attention of the immediate supervisor any conditions which might affect employment. Devise and utilize outcomes assessment measures. Participate fully in all departmental, program-level, and college-levelassessment activities. Meet all scheduled classes promptly with any deviation being filed promptly and accurately through theappropriate channels. Provide current copies of course syllabi to chairperson each semester. Monitor student placementin courses and student progress; maintain accurate records. Interact with and advise students. Participate in facultydevelopment to improve professional effectiveness including the August Learning Lab as well as a first year on-boarding process. Participate in instructional evaluation processes. Attend department meetings and committee meetings as appropriate. Recommend textbook adoptions in collaboration with other faculty in the department. Promote and help with learning assistanceservices. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
Master'sdegree from an accredited institution in the subject area, or a closely related field. Applicants who claim equivalentqualifications shall provide conclusive evidence that they possess qualifications that are at least equivalent to those required by theminimum qualifications of the area for which they are applying. It is the responsibility of the applicant to supply all evidence anddocumentation for the claim of equivalency at the time of application.

Communicate effectively in oral and written English. Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the variedbackgrounds of community college students. Develop and maintain courteous, professional, and effective working relationships withmembers of the department, administration, staff and students.
