$38.50 - $47.66 (Hourly) West Valley Cleanup Alliance is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1B Deactivation & Demolition Contract at the West Valley Demonstration Project site. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, West Valley Demonstration Project continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site. Job summary / purpose of position Perform a variety of non-routine, complex and highly skilled assignments such as the maintenance, testing, and calibration of electronic and pneumatic instruments and controls (I&C). Work under minimal supervision. Follow all safety and security policies and procedures in performing job duties. Minimum qualifications Education / Experience High School education or equivalent plus two (2) years of technical education in an instrumentation field or the equivalent. Minimum of six (6) years of related experience or journeyman.Licenses / Certifications
Must possess a valid driver's license. Other requirements Must be able to successfully complete the training requirements as an Instrument Specialist, Labor Grade 8. Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all other qualifications deemed necessary. Use of tools and equipment necessary to perform jobs. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Major responsibilities / scope of work Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; maintaining a questioning attitude; reporting identified safety concerns or situations; maintaining work area in a clean, safe, and orderly manner. Adhere to the standards contained in the Company "Code of Ethics & Business Conduct," Company EEO practices, and DOE directives. Complete work requirements by following the direction of the supervisor; following policies and procedures; obeying all radiological, safety, and industrial hygiene rules and regulations. Maintain work areas, tools, and equipment in a safe and orderly manner. Maintain technical knowledge by completing training programs, briefings, and training courses as required. Operate various tools, equipment and systems to complete job requirements including, but not limited to, fork trucks, hoisting and rigging equipment, power tools, man lifts and utilities by following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; troubleshooting; adhering to good operating practices; making adjustments; calling for repairs. Complete job requirements by performing a variety of decontamination/contamination control tasks including waste packaging, decontamination, and removal of equipment. Perform work in hazard-controlled work environment by donning and doffing required radiological personal protective equipment (PPE); following radiological, safety, and operations policies and procedures. Perform routine repairs, preventive maintenance, testing, and/or calibration on production, processing and service equipment, hand and power tools, electronic and/or pneumatic instruments. Maintain and install instrument and control (I&C) equipment, components, and devices; test electrical circuits and I&C equipment. Troubleshoot and repair I&C equipment and related components. Conduct diagnosis to provide necessary recommendations to I&C problems. Document actions by completing required records, data sheets, and reports. Maintain records on calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments. Observe operation of I&C equipment to ensure proper operating functions and report any malfunctions. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the maintenance and repair of plant instrumentation systems and equipment. Calibrate and maintain primary and secondary standards to meet NIST requirements. Assemble, test, and calibrate measuring and test instruments. Design, lay out, and build instrument and control circuitry. Develop and maintain instrument calibration equipment, procedures, and records in accordance with Quality Assurance Standards. May provide guidance to other personnel. Perform work within a crew environment which is controlled by supervision following established procedures and methods. Perform other job-related duties as directed by Supervisor. Perform other work within the bargaining unit as assigned by Supervisor for which the employee is qualified to perform safely. Regular attendance is required.
