$118,151 - $144,372 West Valley Cleanup Alliance is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1B Deactivation & Demolition Contract at the West Valley Demonstration Project site. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, West Valley Demonstration Project continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site. Job Summary / Purpose of Position The Radiological Controls Qualification Manager ensures full alignment of all radiological worker training with DOE and contract occupational radiation protection requirements including DOE regulations published in 10 CFR 835, the site radiological control program, and implementing procedures. This role supports the Training Manager to ensure adherence of radiological controls training and qualification with DOE and site training program requirements, and manages the Radiological Control Technician (RCT) qualification program to ensure qualified RCT resources are available to support site projects. Minimum Qualifications Education /
Experience:
BA/BS in Engineering, Natural Science, or related environmental science field, or equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum of eight (8) years of related experience Radiological Controls/Occupational Radiation Protection program experience preferred Licenses /
Certifications:
National Registry of Radiation Protection Technology (NRRPT) — ability to achieve certification within 6 months of hire
Other Requirements:
Mastery of radiological controls, scientific principles, and DOE occupational radiation protection requirements Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent organizational and analytical skills Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft 365 All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Major Responsibilities / Scope of Work Maintain a safe and healthy work environment following all safety practices and PPE requirements. Develop and maintain a site-wide radiological training and qualification program aligned with regulations (10 CFR 835, DOE-HDBK-1130-2022, DOE
G 441.1C, DOE-STD-1098
). Manage staffing, scheduling, and program resources. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to radiological training and support personnel. Support the Training Manager in developing Radiological Worker training and qualifications. Track performance indicators, integrate lessons learned, and address training deficiencies. Develop and manage the RCT qualification program. Ensure training incorporates site-specific hazards including radioactive exposure, legacy contamination, and waste handling. Develop practical exercises for emergency response, job coverage, boundary control, and decontamination. Enhance technical knowledge through classroom, lab, and field training. Support modernization initiatives including program design and administrative tasks. Introduce new training technology to support complex field tasks. Promote management expectations and continuous improvement. Evaluate trainee performance and determine qualification pass/fail outcomes. Support program assessments and corrective actions. Solicit and evaluate trainee feedback to improve training effectiveness. Maintain professional knowledge through workshops, publications, and participation in professional societies. Essential Functions Interpret and follow guidelines, policies, and laws to accomplish complex assignments. Anticipate and resolve complex issues. Establish priorities, schedules, cost controls, and deadlines. Direct the work of others, develop projects, write procedures, and mentor team members. Produce and present accurate technical documentation. Supervisory Responsibilities Recruit, train, and maintain department staff while ensuring a safe and legal workplace. Communicate expectations, monitor performance, counsel, and discipline employees. Establish departmental goals and evaluate outcomes. Prepare budgets, forecast needs, and manage expenditures.
