Summary Statement Natural Resources Police Trainee position(s) for the State Parks Unit and Fish and Wildlife Unit, duties will include crime prevention and detection, public safety, enforcement of all Delaware criminal and traffic laws, responding to calls for service, and enforcing Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Rules and Regulations. This position will be responsible for enforcing all applicable state park regulations, fishing, hunting, and boating laws, and regulations. Varied patrols by use of motor vehicle, foot patrol, bicycle, ATV/UTV and vessel in varying weather conditions. Essential Functions Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Implements appropriate law enforcement action in response to complaints, traffic, criminal, regulatory and other activities. Investigates suspicious and criminal activity which includes detecting, collecting and preserving physical evidence, interviewing victims, witnesses, suspects and defendants, processing charging documents, executing search and arrest warrants and processing defendants. Performs vehicle and foot patrol of assigned areas. Performs community policing through informational presentations and educational seminars for other state agencies, schools, the public and community organizations. Provides protective services to state employees, visitors and the general public. Conducts surveillances and performs undercover assignments. Provides assistance to other law enforcement agencies as back-up or primary response. Takes into custody and transports felons and prisoners. Presents evidence and testimony and prosecutes cases in court. Prepares and maintains a variety of reports pertaining to response of an incident, daily activity and investigations. Calibrates, maintains and uses various technical instruments and equipment to determine safety compliance and operational readiness. Job RequirementsJOB REQUIREMENTS
for Natural Resources Police Trainee Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: At least 20 and 1/2 years of age. Associates degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Sociology or related field. OR At least 20 and 1/2 years of age. Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Six months experience in conducting investigations which includes conducting interviews to obtain confidential information, gathering evidence and documenting findings. Six months experience in ing natural resources laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures. Six months experience in narrative report writing. Additional Posting Information This is a tested position, and all qualified candidates will be contacted by email to test. Incumbents working four or more hours of work between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. the following day will receive 5% shift differential pay. Selected incumbent is eligible for Hazardous Duty Pay upon completion of the basic approved Police Officer Standards and Training Academy. A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire. As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). State of Delaware Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) For admission to a POST approved Delaware Police Academy, applicants who are made a conditional offer of employment shall be required to successfully complete State of Delaware approved psychiatric/psychological exam, medical examination, eye exam and a physical ability test to demonstrate fitness for duty. By the end of probationary period, applicants must show proof of boater education (a state-issued card or NASBLA-approved certificate) or have successfully completed a NASBLA approved boating safety course and show completion of the Delaware Hunter Safety Course.
