Monday through Thursday, approximately 18-32 hours per week, with some flexibility in specific hoursCompensation:
$22-$35 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications About Murphy Family Law, PC Murphy Family Law, PC is a boutique family law firm in Chico, California, dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality legal services to individuals and families navigating some of life's most difficult transitions. Our firm provides experienced family law and mediation services. We intentionally maintain a manageable caseload so our clients receive focused, personalized attention. We are a small, collaborative team that values professionalism, reliability, compassion, and attention to detail. Position Overview We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team. This position is ideal for an experienced legal assistant who enjoys working in a small, collaborative environment and is interested in expanding their skills and taking on additional responsibilities over time. The successful candidate will work closely with our attorney, mediator, and office staff to support the day-to-day management of family law cases. The position will involve a combination of legal support, case management, client communication, document preparation, scheduling, filing, and general office responsibilities. Family law experience is preferred, but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate in our firm's specific processes and family law procedures. Key Responsibilities Assist with day-to-day case management and maintain organized case files. Monitor case deadlines, hearings, filing deadlines, and other important dates. Prepare, format, proofread, and organize pleadings, declarations, discovery, correspondence, exhibits, and other legal documents. Assist with preparing and completing California Judicial Council family law forms. Prepare and electronically file court documents and maintain conformed copies. Assist with discovery, including preparation, organization, service, and tracking. Gather and organize client information, financial records, exhibits, and other case materials. Coordinate service of legal documents as directed. Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, process servers, and other professionals. Assist with client intake, conflict checks, scheduling, and appointment coordination. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications At least one year of experience working in a law office or legal support role. Experience preparing, completing, reviewing, and filing legal documents and court forms. Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Strong computer and technology skills. Ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information. Preferred Qualifications Family law experience. Familiarity with California Judicial Council family law forms and court filing procedures. Experience with electronic court filing. Experience supporting litigation or other legal proceedings. Paralegal certificate or formal paralegal education. Experience with Clio or other legal case management software.
