Job Description
Diamond Steel CO. seeking a dependable and skilled Welder-Fabricator & Truck Upfitting Technician to join our manufacturing team. This position blends hands‑on welding and fabrication work with full‑scope truck body installation, including mechanical assembly, hydraulics, and 12V electrical systems. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety‑focused, and capable of producing high‑quality work in a fast‑paced production environment. Job specific training will be provided. Key ResponsibilitiesWelding & Fabrication Weld stainless steel and black iron using MIG processes. Fabricate water truck tanks, including setting heads and baffles, welding internal and external seams, and assembling plumbing. Fabricate parts and components using shop machinery (grinders, saws, brakes, etc.). Build equipment and components from blueprints, fabrication drawings, and hydraulic schematics. Weld and fabricate paving equipment parts as assigned. Truck Body Installation & Upfitting Prepare truck chassis for installation, including frame modifications, drilling/tapping, and routing wires or airlines. Install water tank bodies and related components onto truck chassis. Route and connect 12V electrical wiring, switches, lighting, and electrical components. Install hydraulic systems including PTOs, driveline components, pumps, motors, and plumbing. Install pneumatic controls and air lines. Mount toolboxes, ladders, steps, hitches, and other accessories. Operate forklifts, hoists, and lifting equipment safely. General Shop Duties Report material needs and inventory shortages. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Follow all safety policies and use required PPE. Assist other fabrication and assembly roles as needed. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Minimum 1 year MIG welding experience. Minimum 1 year fabrication experience. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and basic schematics. Ability to produce high‑quality work while meeting deadlines. Understanding of basic manufacturing safety procedures. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Knowledge of hand tools, air tools, and power tools. Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16". Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly. Willingness and physical ability to work inside large tanks when required. Must be able to pass a welding test administered by the shop foreman. Preferred Experience with 12V electrical wiring. Experience with hydraulic systems and truck body upfitting. Mechanical assembly/disassembly experience. Forklift operation experience. Strong attention to detail and self‑motivation.
