Job Description

Immediate opening Hourly The City of Beckley Police Department The City of Beckley Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Automotive Mechanic . This position is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of Police Department vehicles and related equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Automotive Mechanic will be responsible for, but not limited to: Performing preventative maintenance and repairs on police vehicles and departmental equipment. Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and computer-related vehicle problems. Repairing and servicing engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, heating and air-conditioning systems. Maintaining and repairing emergency vehicles, including police cruisers and specialized equipment. Inspecting vehicles to identify safety concerns and necessary repairs. Maintaining accurate records of maintenance, repairs, parts, and labor. Ordering and maintaining an appropriate inventory of automotive parts and supplies. Responding to emergency repair needs when necessary. Keeping the work area clean, organized, and in compliance with applicable safety standards. Performing other related duties assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should possess: High school diploma or GED. Demonstrated experience as an automotive mechanic or technician. Knowledge of modern automotive diagnostic and repair procedures. ASE certifications are preferred but not required. Ability to operate diagnostic equipment and use computerized vehicle systems. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Ability to lift and carry automotive parts and equipment and perform the physical duties associated with vehicle repair.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The successful candidate should demonstrate: Strong knowledge of automotive mechanical and electrical systems. Ability to diagnose and repair a variety of vehicle problems efficiently. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Good communication and organizational skills.
