(MEI) is seeking skilled and mechanically minded individuals to join our team as Diesel Locomotive Mechanics . If you have experience with diesel engines, heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, trucks, agricultural equipment, or railroad equipment , your skills may transfer well to this position. Locomotive experience is preferred, but we are also interested in strong mechanics who are willing to learn the railroad industry. MEI has been in business since 1990 and provides locomotive and railcar repair services to Class I railroads, short-line railroads, leasing companies, OEMs, and industrial customers. Typical responsibilities include:

Diagnose and repair locomotive mechanical problems Inspect, repair, rebuild, and replace fuel pumps, water pumps, control valves, governors, distributors, and other mechanical components Perform diesel engine maintenance and repairs Remove and install locomotive components using hand tools, power tools, hoists, cranes, and other equipment Time injectors and valves, set racks, and verify engine settings Torque engine components to proper specifications Inspect turbo, idler backlash, AR-10 bearings, and related components Perform locomotive cab repairs, including flooring, seats, and liners Operate grinders, pneumatic tools, cutting tools, forklifts, overhead cranes, and truck cranes Read gauges, precision measuring instruments, technical manuals, schematics, and drawings Complete work safely and in accordance with company, environmental, and regulatory requirements What We're Looking For Ideal candidates have a strong mechanical background and are comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment.

Preferred experience includes:

Diesel engine repair Heavy equipment maintenance Industrial maintenance Truck or automotive repair Agricultural equipment repair Railroad or locomotive maintenance Candidates should also have: Strong mechanical aptitude Experience using hand, power, and pneumatic tools Ability to read precision instruments and gauges Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Ability to understand technical manuals, specifications, schematics, and drawings Willingness and ability to learn OEM procedures and Federal Railroad Administration requirements Ability to work overtime when production demands require it High school diploma or GED preferred Physical & Work Environment This is a hands-on industrial position. Employees must be able to safely perform work that may include: Standing and walking for extended periods Bending, kneeling, crouching, squatting, climbing, and reaching Climbing ladders and entering and exiting locomotives Working from elevated and uneven surfaces Working indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures Working around noise, dust, fumes, and heavy machinery Working in tight spaces Lifting up to 82 pounds with or without assistance Wearing required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, safety-toe boots, and respiratory protection when required Meeting medical qualifications for respirator use About Metro East Industries Founded in 1990, Metro East Industries has grown into a major provider of railcar and locomotive repair services.
